Memorial Day is here, and whether you need to do grocery shopping for the week ahead or just need to pick up some refreshments for a gathering, consumers will have plenty of options.
Most restaurants, grocery stores and national retailers will remain open on Monday, May 25. However, banks, post offices, shipping services and the stock market will be closed because Memorial Day is a federal holiday.
Will Costco Be Open or Closed on Memorial Day 2026?
Costco will not be an option for shoppers on Memorial Day this year, as the company’s website says warehouses will be closed on May 25 in observance of the holiday.
Are Other Grocery Stores Open on Memorial Day?
Most grocery chains will be open under their regular operating hours on May 25. Kroger says on its website that its stores will be open; however, pharmacy and clinic hours may vary.
Walmart and Food Lion confirmed to USA TODAY their stores will be open regular hours on the holiday as well.
Other grocery stores, such as Trader Joe’s, Meijer, Publix and Whole Foods, among others, have traditionally been open on Memorial Day. It is always best to check with your local store regarding specific holiday hours.
In terms of wholesale clubs, Sam’s Club warehouses will open at 8 a.m. for Plus members and 9 a.m. for Club members, and they’ll close at 8 p.m., according to the company’s website. BJ’s warehouses will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Memorial Day, the company says on its website.
