11 Pharmacies That Still Deliver Prescriptions for Free (Including Costco)

No one wants to brave a trip to the pharmacy on a good day, let alone when they’re already sick.

Whether you’re wanting to save on gas or trying not to leave bed while dealing with the latest bug, I have some good news. Plenty of pharmacies are willing to ship you your prescriptions for free.

Be careful, as some popular pharmacies may sound free when advertising their services, but aren’t really. We made it easy for you, though, and compiled a list of pharmacy delivery services that are free for real.

Walmart

Where this pharmacy is located: Walmart has more than 5,200 locations in the U.S., as well as a website and app for online orders.

How its free delivery works: Walmart+ members can get free delivery through Walmart Pharmacy delivery, which otherwise charges a $9.95 delivery fee. You can opt to have your prescription delivered along with other items, such as groceries and household items, and delivery times range from same day to a few days, depending on your location.

Costco

Where this pharmacy is located: Costco has more than 800 physical locations worldwide, as well as a website and app for online orders. Costco pharmacies are located at the warehouses.

How its free delivery works: Costco says it offers free standard shipping. Costco customers can choose the “Mail Order” delivery method, which takes seven to 10 business days. There are quicker options for an additional fee.

Amazon Pharmacy

Where this pharmacy is located: This is part of Amazon and completely online.

How its free delivery works: Amazon Prime members get free two-day shipping, plus free same-day delivery on their first order of a new medication, depending on ZIP code and medication. Same-day refills are also available for Prime members for just $2.99.

Non-Prime members can get medications delivered in four to five days for no cost, or pay $5.99 for two-day delivery.

Amazon also offers its members access to RxPass, which caps certain medication costs at just $5 a month.

PillPack

Where this pharmacy is located: PillPack is an online service. It’s owned by Amazon but still a standalone service.

How its free delivery works: You’ll use your insurance and doctor’s information to set up your account here. PillPack will coordinate with them to receive and send your prescriptions like other pharmacies. Your first order will ship within two weeks. After that, your prescribed refills should arrive before you even need them.

Express Scripts Pharmacy

Where this pharmacy is located: Express Scripts is an online service.

How its free delivery works: Express Scripts offers free standard shipping on three-month supplies of medications. The Express Scripts service must be covered under your health benefits, but its website says 1 in 3 Americans are eligible for the service.

HealthWarehouse

Where this pharmacy is located: HealthWarehouse is an online service.

How its free delivery works: Orders are shipped for free Monday through Friday anywhere in the U.S., including U.S. territories. Faster shipping options are available for a fee. Insulin and other medications that require special temperature control are shipped via Next Day Air.

Hy-Vee

Where this pharmacy is located: Hy-Vee has over 240 physical locations in eight Midwestern states.

How its free delivery works: You’ll have to create a Hy-Vee Pharmacy account to take advantage of delivery. Members can get their medications shipped to them for free between three and five days. You can also enroll in the Repeat Refills program to ensure your prescriptions are promptly refilled and mailed ahead of time.

Giant Eagle

Where this pharmacy is located: Giant Eagle has locations in Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

How its free delivery works: A Giant Eagle Pharmacy can provide free next-day delivery. The person ordering the prescriptions, however, has to be available to sign for the delivery, and no one under the age of 18 can do so. Refill requests sent to the pharmacy before 10 a.m. can be delivered the same day.

Geisinger Pharmacy

Where this pharmacy is located: Geisinger Pharmacy has locations in northeastern and central Pennsylvania.

How its free delivery works: You’ll have to call a location, but once that’s settled, you should get your free delivery in three to five days.

Capsule

Where this pharmacy is located: Capsule is an online service.

How its free delivery works: Capsule provides free same-day shipping in some major cities. Just make an account and provide your insurance information, and Capsule will coordinate with your old pharmacy or your prescriber. They’ll also keep in contact with your doctor for automatic refills.

Optum Home Delivery Pharmacy

Where this pharmacy is located: Optum is an online service available in the U.S. and other countries.

How its free delivery works: Optum Home Delivery Pharmacy provides free three- to five-day delivery. To use this service, however, your insurance has to have a contract with Optum.
