National Coffee Day is on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and plenty of chains will offer deals and freebies on America’s favorite beverage.

According to the National Coffee Association, coffee is consumed by more adults each day than any other beverage, including tap or bottled water. The 2026 National Coffee Data Trends Fall Report found that 66% of Americans reported drinking coffee at some point in the past day, and out-of-home coffee consumption is nearing pre-COVID-19 levels.

The report found that 83% of coffee drinkers have coffee at home, while out-of-home consumption among coffee drinkers reached 38% in the survey, the highest level since January 2020. Additionally, more American adults now drink specialty coffee than traditional coffee — 48% reported having specialty coffee in the past day, a new record.

According to the report, conducted by Dig Insights on behalf of the National Coffee Association, espresso-based drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos and mochas play a key role in specialty coffee’s popularity, with a record-high 47% of Americans having had an espresso-based beverage in the past week.

“Few things are as deeply woven into American life as coffee, and these numbers show our love for coffee is only growing stronger and more diverse,” said National Coffee Association President and CEO Bill Murray in the survey’s news release. “Whether it’s brewed at home, ordered at a drive-thru, or enjoyed in a favorite espresso-based drink, coffee continues to evolve while remaining an essential part of millions of Americans’ daily routines.”

Starbucks Celebrates With New Aerocano Drink and Mini Pies

Beginning Sept. 29, Starbucks is introducing a new iced espresso beverage to its menus called the Aerocano.

According to the chain, the Aerocano is a “smooth Starbucks Blonde Espresso air-whipped to create a light foam and cascading visual effect.” Starbucks says it’s a modern take on the Iced Americano.

Also arriving on menus Sept. 29 are three new Mini Pies, including an Apple Crumble Mini Pie, a Pecan Mini Pie and a Pumpkin Mini Pie.

Dunkin’ Offers Free Drink With Purchase on National Coffee Day

On Sept. 29, Dunkin’ Rewards members can get a free medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase through the Dunkin’ app, the company told USA TODAY.

Additionally, building on its collaboration with apparel company L.L. Bean, a Dunkin’-inspired Birdseye Sweater and Boat and Tote drops on Sept. 29, in addition to a limited-edition L.L. Bean Coffee Tote.

The two brands collaborated on a sweater-shaped koozie that came free with any hot or iced coffee purchase at participating locations on Sept. 22.

7Brew Offers Limited-Edition License Plate Stickers

On Sept. 29, 7Brew customers can get a free state license plate sticker with any drink purchase at participating locations nationwide. Customers will receive one sticker for each drink purchased, according to 7Brew’s website.

The chain has more than 800 locations across 38 states.

Tim Hortons Offers Free Coffee

Tim Hortons is celebrating National Coffee Day by offering customers a free coffee, any size, with no purchase necessary, on Sept. 29, the company told USA TODAY. Flavor modifiers are also included.

To receive the offer, customers must activate it in the Tim Hortons app.

Dairy Queen Offers New DQ Coffee Cooler for Just $3

In honor of National Coffee Day, Dairy Queen is offering customers a small DQ Coffee Cooler for just $3 at participating U.S. locations through Nov. 1.

DQ Coolers are available in three flavors:

• Oreo DQ Coffee Cooler
• Salted Caramel DQ Coffee Cooler
• Toasted Marshmallow DQ Coffee Cooler — limited-time only

Krispy Kreme Unveils Original Glazed Coffee Flavored Doughnut

Krispy Kreme has unveiled a new Original Glazed Coffee Flavored Doughnut in honor of National Coffee Day.

Available Saturday, Sept. 26, through Tuesday, Sept. 29, the chain says the doughnut combines “Krispy Kreme’s iconic Original Glazed doughnut with smooth, creamy coffee flavor that is subtly bold and perfectly sweet.”

Additionally, customers who visit Krispy Kreme shops Sept. 29 can get a free small or medium hot or iced coffee with any purchase, and customers can get a dozen Original Glazed Coffee Flavored doughnuts for just $5 with the purchase of any dozen at regular price Sept. 26-29.

There is a limit of two per guest in-shop and via the drive-thru, and a limit of one per guest via Krispy Kreme’s app for pickup or delivery, using promo code “COFFEE” while supplies last.

Sheetz Offers Free Self-Serve Coffee With Purchase

Sheetz is offering customers a free hot or iced self-serve coffee with any food or beverage purchase through Oct. 1.

Customers must be My Sheetz Rewardz members to redeem the offer, the company told USA TODAY.

Pilot Offers Free Coffee

Pilot is offering customers free any-size hot coffees on Sept. 29, with no purchase necessary.

Customers can take advantage of the offer by opening the Pilot app and redeeming the National Coffee Day offer at checkout.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Offers Discounted Drinks

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has a pair of promotions to celebrate National Coffee Day.

On Sept. 29, Coffee Bean Rewards members can enjoy any large beverage for just $5. Additionally, customers at participating Los Angeles-area cafes who spend $15 or more in-cafe beginning Sept. 29 will receive a free limited-edition mini tote and one collectible patch while supplies last.

The promotion features 12 unique patch designs released across three drops throughout the celebration, the company told USA TODAY.

Smoothie King Offers Free Coffee Smoothie

On Sept. 28-29, Smoothie King is offering rewards members a free 12-ounce Coffee High Protein Almond Mocha smoothie, which is made with cold brew and offers 14 grams of protein and 0 grams of added sugar.
